How to Paint Realistic Rocks in your Landscape Paintings
presented by Terri Bowen, B.Ed., M.A.
What: Let’s first approach this study scientifically by learning about the common rock types on our Island. Afterwards we’ll spend some of our time learning various styles of painting rocks in acrylics and we’ll complete small guided paintings of some rocks. Then we will delve into some of the painters who painted their rocks in brilliant and sometimes inventive ways. Finally, we’ll paint a landscape which features some rocks. Please bring your own reference photo to use as a basis for your painting.
When: Saturday, May 10 from 12 – 4 p.m.
Where: Lighthouse Community Centre in the Nordin room
What: You will receive instructions and handouts, canvases for painting on, and all paints. Please bring a reference photo and your own brushes. $60 cash at the door or by e-transfer.
There will be follow up-emails for further learning after the workshop. Registration is limited.

Discoverthe science of nephrology, the study of cloud formations. Learn about andpractice some ‘tricks of the trade’ for painting convincing and dramaticclouds. Then find out how some of the ArtMasters applied their observations of clouds to make their paintings comealive. End off painting your own acryliclandscape with clouds as a focus, using your own reference photo and guidancefrom your instructor. Terri haspreviously taught six week classes at Elder College and a one session workshopon this topic at the MacMillan Art Gallery.
When: May 19, Monday, from 12 to 4 pm
Where: At the Nordin room on the rightside of the Lighthouse Community Centre
What: You will learn about clouds andpractice several techniques for painting them. Then with all the supplies provided for $60, except acrylicpaintbrushes, you will paint your own landscape from your reference photo. Payment is cash at the door or by e-transfer.
